This program aims to help those with chronic disease(s) maintain their health, and maintain or increase activities and personal fulfillment. The focus is on problem-solving and strategies to deal with challenges such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation; increasing exercise to maintain and improve strength, flexibility and endurance; appropriate use of medications; effective communication with family, friends, and health professionals; nutrition; and how to evaluate new treatments. Program participants meet for once a week over 6 weeks.
Feedback from Gloria, previous class attendee – I must say that at first I hesitated to attend because i have grown quite weary of attending classes aimed at senior citizens where all they do is discuss the everyday happenings of old age (arthritis, loss of balance, diabetes, poor blood circulation, etc., etc.). It is tiresome enough living thru it, no less hearing it discussed ad infinitum. These classes were so refreshing because they focused on living our every day lives to the fullest, and the suggestions you offered to do so were realistic. I learned new strategies that have definitely improved and enhanced my life-style.
